I am a Board-Certified Pediatrician and former faculty member at the University of Michigan. I attended college at the University of Chicago, I have a PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley, and I obtained my MD from Columbia University in New York City. I completed my residency training in Pediatrics at Columbia and at the University of Michigan and completed a year of Clinical Genetics training at the University of Michigan. I have been a practicing primary care pediatrician since 1997.
I have researched and published on the care of ear infections in children and authored the University of Michigan Otitis Media Clinical Practice Guideline, which encourages following ear infections without antibiotics. I do not like using antibiotics unless really necessary. I have found that many parents feel the same.
I have been interested in the care of autistic children since 2003 when I first learned about the biomedical therapy of autism through the parents of autistic patients. I now apply many of the principles of biomedical therapy to the care of non autistic conditions such as ADHD, behavioral disorders, allergies, constipation, and diarrhea. I also believe that pharmaceuticals can have an important role in the care of these conditions. Furthermore, I enjoy doing guided imagery therapy and behavioral counseling.
